Since then West Ham have turned their attentions to AC Milan‘s Colombian star striker Carlos Bacca but that too is in limbo.

There were even reports the Hammers were lining up a huge bid for Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez and further speculation they are after his young teammate Martin Odegaard, as reported by the likes of The Sun.

Guardiola’s new era at City has already provided a few outcasts for a number of reasons.

Defender Eliaquim Mangala and striker Wilfried Bony are surplus to requirements with Bony expected to complete a move to Everton or Sevilla.

Now former Arsenal star Samir Nasri has joined the duo in being left out of Guardiola’s Champions League squad list this week.

As a result the trio look almost certain to depart the Etihad Stadium which could clear a path for West Ham to offer Nasri a return to London.

Nasri could be available at a knock-down price given his much-publicised issues meeting Guardiola’s strict diet and fitness requirements.

And at 29 the midfielder would still have a lot to offer on a three or four-year contract.

With West Ham moving into their new 60,000 seater Olympic Stadium home it could hardly be seen as a step down either, especially given the Hammers only finished four points behind the Citizens and the Champions League places last season.

And there is also the added carrot of playing alongside fellow Frenchman Dimitri Payet, a midfield pairing to potentially rival anything else in the Premier League.
