Aston Villa have previously sent scouts to watch Peterborough United’s Marcus Maddison.
Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has suggested that Aston Villa are not brave enough to sign Marcus Maddison (HITC), but the £1.5 million release clause in his contract means that the transfer now makes perfect sense.
Villa sent scouts to watch Maddison last season, with Brian Little even making the trip to the ABAX Stadium to keep a watch on the winger.
On that occasion, Villa decided against making a move for the 23-year-old.
But Maddison is now on the transfer list at Posh, with his contract set to expire next summer.
And HITC have broken the news that Maddison has a £1.5 million release clause in his current contract at Peterborough.
At that price, Villa would no longer have to be brave to make the signing of the former Newcastle man – as it represents brilliant value.
Villa have spent heavily since they dropped into the Championship, meaning that Maddison would be a a relatively cheap gamble.
And, considering his performances this season, the claret and blues would be well served by snapping up the skilful attacker.
Maddison has scored nine goals and claimed 17 assists in 41 League One appearances for Peterborough this term.
And, if he could produce those sort of figures at the level above, Maddison could be a key player for Villa next season, as they aim for promotion.
