Tim Sherwood said on Sky Sports News (12:32pm, December 5, 2020) that reported Leeds United and Celtic target Dean Henderson should leave Manchester United if he does not get playing time.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa manager, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, believes that after playing regularly for Sheffield United in the Premier League last season, the 23-year-old goalkeeper needs to do the same this campaign as well.

Premier League club Leeds and Scottish Premiership giants Celtic have been linked with the 23-year-old England international goalkeeper, who spent the last two seasons on loan at the Blades.

According to The Sun in November, Leeds want the youngster, who wants to leave United on loan in January, as covered by HITC Sport here, while 90min reported last month that a loan move to Celtic is an option for Henderson, as covered by HITC Sport here.

Sherwood said about Henderson on Sky Sports News (12:32pm, December 5, 2020): “I know it’s Man United, I know the boy wants to play for Manchester United, the biggest club in the world, but at his age, you just had a season in the Premier League, you have to play football. Get yourself away son and go and play for someone and be their number one.”

Leaving Manchester United for Leeds United or Celtic?

Henderson actually played for United against West Ham United in the Premier League at the weekend due to injury to David de Gea, but it remains to be seen if the Englishman retains his place in the starting lineup when the Spaniard is fully fit and available.

Illian Meslier is the first-choice goalkeeper at Leeds at the moment, and Henderson would not be guaranteed a place in Marcelo Bielsa’s side if he went to Elland Road.

However, at Celtic, Henderson could get into the team straightaway. Vasilis Barkas has not been great since his move to the Hoops in the summer of 2020, and the Glasgow giants’ back-iine could do with a capable goalkeeper such as the United man.
