Sheffield Wednesday are odds-on favourites to sign the out of contract Burnley man.
(Most) Sheffield Wednesday fans are getting excited after having their odds on signing Burnley’s George Boyd slashed by Skybet.
The bookmaker cut the Owls from 8/1 to 1/6 in a matter of hours on Friday, as linked clubs Derby County and Aston Villa drifted out of contention.

While these sorts of developments are often best taken with a pinch of salt – especially when a tweet from ‘FL Transfers’ surfaced shortly before the change in the market – the timing of it all is certainly intriguing.
Boyd’s contract expires today (Friday) for one, while the new financial fair play year is believed to commence on Saturday, July 1, which is also the date on which Wednesday signed Steven Fletcher, another free agent, a year ago.
The Owls are thought to want to add in Boyd’s position, and though he may be 31, there’s little doubt in this writer’s mind he’d be a solid acquisition.
He was, after all, one of the Premier League’s fittest players last season – and let’s not forget it was Boyd who rejected Burnley and not the other way around.
