Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has insisted to the Sheffield Star that there is no conspiracy theory surrounding his decision to drop Tottenham Hotspur target David Brooks.

Brooks was left out of the Blades’ latest starting line-up, which took on Burton Albion.

That led to claims that it could be a sign that the youngster was set to leave at the end of the season, as Tottenham have been heavily linked recently.

However, Wilder has quickly quashed those reports, insisting that the youngster was only taken out of his side for fitness reasons.

“There’s no conspiracy theory,” Wilder said. “He’s not fit enough for 90 minutes yet, that’s not really what the medical people want. So he can start or we can use him as an impact player later on in the game.

“I think the world of him, the players think the world of him and the fans do too. David makes us better, of course he does. But we have to be sensible given the situation. If we overload him and lose him, people and then looking at me asking ‘is he stupid?’ That’s if they’re not already.”

The Sun have suggested that Spurs will come in for Brooks in the summer, with a £10 million bid talked about.

Brooks has been one of the stand out young players in the Championship this season, and looks to have an extremely bright future.

Spurs have had no qualms with buying from the lower leagues, and love developing prospects.

Brooks has scored three goals and claimed three assists for the Blades this season, and will be expected to come back into Wilder’s first-team in the near future.
