Alan Shearer has selected Newcastle United defender Dan Burn in his Premier League Team of the Season so far, for the Athletic.

In a team that features the likes of Nick Pope and Kieran Trippier as well, Eddie Howe’s side have been represented amongst some of the finest performers in the league up until now,

However, Alan Shearer may have made a surprise pick by selecting Dan Burn as the left-back in the Premier League Team of the Season halfway into the campaign.

However, it’s clear to see that the Magpies’ all-time top goalscorer feels that the £13 million (Sky Sports) merits a spot in the side.

For the Athletic, Alan Shearer gave his two cents on why Dan Burn made his Premier League Team of the Season.

“Left-back isn’t Dan Burn’s preferred position but he’s made it his own and deserves to be there”, he said.

While some may heavily disagree, it is at least fair to state that the former Brighton central defender has been a class act since joining Newcastle.

As good as Dan Burn has been, there have been superior candidates

There is no disputing with Alan Shearer, as his justification for putting Dan Burn in his Premier League Team of the Season was due to the fact that he has fared well out of position.

However, the likes of Arsenal’s Oleksandr Zinchenko and Manchester United’s Luke Shaw would have worthier contenders. The former runs a lot of the show for the best side in the country, while the latter has been the best overlapping left-back in England this season.

As brilliant as Dan Burn has been and is a shout for being in the Premier League Team of the Season, as Alan Shearer clearly believes, his other two competitors are levels ahead even now.
