Shay Given has said on Sky Sports News (9:11pm, January 31, 2022) that he cannot believe that Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United or Everton did not sign Aaron Ramsey before the midfielder moved to Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers.

The former Newcastle goalkeeper believes that ex-Arsenal midfielder Ramsey, who joined Rangers on January transfer deadline day, is good enough to play in the Premier League.

The Sky Sports pundit believes that the Wales international midfielder would have been a good signing for Newcastle or Everton.

Rangers signed Ramsey on loan from Juventus on the final day of the January transfer window.

The 31-year-old is scheduled to stay at Rangers until the end of the season.

Given said about Ramsey on Sky Sports News (9:11pm, January 31, 2022): “I am really surprised that no Premier League clubs have looked at him.

“You look at Newcastle, maybe even Everton today. I think he is good enough to play in the Premier League.”

Aaron Ramsey a missed opportunity for Newcastle

In our view, Newcastle would have been a better team with Ramsey in it.

Now, of course, Rangers are a big club who are aiming to win the Scottish Premiership title for the second season in a row and are also still in the Europa League.

However, Newcastle are an established club in the Premier League who have grand plans for the future.

And they also have the richest owners in club football.

Howe could have done with a dynamic midfielder such as Ramsey in there.

The Daily Mail reported in January that Newcastle were among the clubs interested in Ramsey.
