Rodrigo Bentancur is back for Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United’s Sergio Reguilon is delighted to see him return.

Tottenham Hotspur beat Crystal Palace on Friday night and the return of Rodrigo Bentancur was the icing on the cake.

Spurs were 2-0 up at Selhurst Park as a Joel Ward own goal and Son Heung-min’s strike had Tottenham coasting.

Ange Postecoglou then decided to bring midfielder Bentancur off the bench for his first appearance since February.

Bentancur had to dig in as Palace pulled one back, but Tottenham saw it through to claim a 2-1 win and remain top of the Premier League table.

Sergio Reguilon celebrates Rodrigo Bentancur return

Bentancur suffered a major knee injury against Leicester City in February and has been a long road to recovery.

The Uruguayan had really emerged as a goalscoring threat from midfield last season before suffering his major injury blow.

Bentancur has been ramping up his return of late and seeing him introduced at Palace was an emotional moment for all.

Bentancur took to Instagram to post a message about his return, noting that this has been a ‘very long’ process and thanked his teammates for welcoming him back.

Tottenham players took to the comments to celebrate Bentancur’s return and there was even a message from Sergio Reguilon.

The Spaniard is on loan at Manchester United and spent last season away with Atletico Madrid, but spent the back half of the 2021-22 season with Bentancur at Spurs.

Reguilon seemingly built up a friendship in that time and has now stated ‘I’m so happy for you brother’ on Bentancur’s Instagram post.

My view: Bentancur an exciting addition to Ange Postecoglou’s side

It may take a while for Bentancur to get up to speed in the Premier League, so these substitute cameos will probably continue for a while.

Yet if Bentancur can get back to anywhere near his level from last season, then Tottenham will have a major addition to Postecoglou’s squad.

Pape Matar Sarr has really kicked on this season but Bentancur has so much class on the ball and the ability to go past midfielders.

Add in the goal threat and Bentancur could be an absolutely perfect addition to ‘Angeball’, which has already been incredible to watch this season.

We can’t raise expectations too high here as Bentancur still faces a long road to full sharpness, but his return felt like a big moment for Spurs.
