Who will Djed Spence sign for next season? Will it be Tottenham? Nottingham Forest? One team many will agree he won’t be playing for is his parent club, Middlesbrough.

The sought-after right-back, after completing national duties with England’s U21s, posted on his Instagram ‘time to rest and recover. See you all next season’.

Now, which team Spence is making reference to is still up for debate, but rumours suggest that it is indeed Tottenham that are the favourites to land his signature.

A ROLLERCOASTER 12 MONTHS FOR SPENCE

Last summer, Spence was told by Boro, who were then managed by Neil Warnock, that he needed to sort himself out, hence why he joined Nottingham Forest on loan.

With Chris Hughton in charge of the Midlands giants, their season started in disaster, with the club sitting bottom of the league when Steve Cooper was appointed manager in September.

But the all-action right-back has been on some journey since, including surging up the league, getting into the play-offs and then securing promotion by beating Huddersfield at Wembley in the play-off final.

Now, clubs from across the Premier League, including Forest, want to sign Spence, who has a big call to make on his future this summer.

It’s understandable if his eyes are quickly drawn to Spurs because they can offer him Champions League football, as well as playing alongside England captain Harry Kane, Golden Boot winner Heung-Min Son and a trophy-laden coach in Antonio Conte.

But he shouldn’t rule out Forest because one of English football’s sleeping giants, the former two-time European Cup winners are back where they belong.

Forest are riding a wave now and they are on an upward trajectory, so either way, any move would be career-changing for Spence.
