David Seaman has issued a two-word verdict on Twitter after Aaron Ramsdale produced a top save to deny Southampton whilst Arsenal ran out 3-0 winners on Saturday afternoon.

Mikel Arteta’s side welcomed the Saints to the Emirates Stadium seeking to bounce back from back-to-back losses. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s south coast side also arrived in north London chasing better form, having failed to win any of their previous four Premier League games.

But Arsenal were the ones ending their winless run, after goals from Alexandre Lacazette, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Magalhaes. The win moved the Gunners back into fifth-place and a point behind West Ham United in the last of the four Champions League positions.

Lacazette broke the deadlock on 21-minutes for the 30-year-old’s second goal of the league campaign so far. The Frenchman converted Bukayo Saka’s cross to finish a move Ramsdale started. Odegaard then got in on the act for Arsenal’s second with a close-range header.

Gabriel thought he had the Gunners’ third goal early in the second period after bundling the ball over the line. But referee Jarred Gillett chalked the goal off for offside.

Yet the 23-year-old only had to wait two-minutes before leaping high and heading home again. He met Gabriel Martinelli’s corner to put the game to bed with his fifth Arsenal goal.

Seaman praises Ramsdale save in Arsenal win vs Southampton

Arsenal’s three goals killed the game as a contest but Southampton sought to threaten a comeback, only for Ramsdale to stand firm to keep his seventh clean sheet this term.

The Gunners’ £24m summer signing from Sheffield United has also only conceded 13 goals over his 13 Premier League appearances. But nine have come during his last five outings.

Ramsdale also had to dig deep to register his seventh shut out on Saturday as Arsenal beat Southampton. But most of his saves were routine for a goalkeeper showing the quality the England international has this term. Yet he sprinkled the routine with the sublime, too.

However, Ramsdale’s save in the 73rd-minute to stop Southampton defender Jan Bednarek sparked praise from Arsenal’s iconic former goalkeeper, Seaman.

He simply noted on Twitter following the save: “Safe hands.”
