Some Arsenal fans on social media have been waxing-lyrical about Gabriel Martinelli after his performance against Southampton.

How did Martinelli get on?

To put it bluntly, Martinelli was exceptional against the Saints.

Yes, the attacker didn’t manage to get a goal, but he was simply brilliant in every other aspect of his game.

He struck the post at one point, he was working incredibly hard at tracking back, and he even showed a bit of flair and trickery.

Factor in that his set-piece delivery was spot on and led to a goal, and you can understand why Gunners supporters have been fawning over him.

Inevitably, this performance led to some comparisons to past Arsenal greats. A couple of supporters likened the winger to Alexis Sanchez, while one fan stated that Martinelli is the best signing Arsenal have made since Robin van Persie.

We’re sure that players such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil may have something to say about that latter point, but the fact that such claims are being made just goes to show how brilliant Martinelli has been.
