Scottie Scheffler is setting a standard that amateur golfers everywhere should look to follow, sitting comfortably at the top of the world rankings.

His latest achievement, winning a fourth major title at The Open, has people saying he’s changed the course of golf history.

Despite the home crowd rallying behind Rory McIlroy, Scheffler earned plenty of admiration at Royal Portrush, as his composed performance didn’t go unnoticed by fans.

That victory marked the 17th PGA Tour title of his career, moving him steadily up the all-time wins leaderboard.

With only the US Open left to secure the career Grand Slam, the New Jersey native’s march into golf’s elite history is gaining serious momentum, giving even more weight to his words and advice.

Scheffler once shared his thoughts on what holds amateurs back, tying it back to his own habits.

“Most amateur golfers that struggle with their swing, it’s not because they lack coordination, it’s because their bodies physically can’t move the way that you’re supposed to. I have the same stretching routine whether or not I’m playing golf or not.”

When asked if he starts his routine first thing in the morning, especially after a long stretch away from home, Scheffler said: “Depending on the day, but if I’m at home after a week on the road, definitely not first thing in the morning.

“Those mornings are a little bit slower. But I have a routine, it probably takes 20-ish minutes to do every morning, and then we spend a lot of time in the gym, probably working out four or five days a week and just kind of trying to stay in shape for a golfer.”

While it’s unlikely amateur golfers will ever match Scheffler’s swing, there’s still plenty they can take from watching him play.

That goes for both his skillset and his mindset. The American has shown time and again how much mental toughness matters at the highest level.

The comparisons to Tiger Woods are growing by the week, with Scheffler now putting together a run of form that matches some of Tiger’s best stretches.

At Royal Portrush, he finished with an eagle and 20 birdies, placing him T6 and T3 in those categories. He also had just three bogeys all week, fewer than anyone else in the field.
