Scottie Scheffler is back in action this week, taking part in the FedEx St. Jude Championship, where he is very much in the mix.

Fleetwood leads by two shots heading into the final round at TPC Southwind, with Rose in second and Scheffler two shots further back. Fleetwood and Rose will be paired for the final round.

The American golfer, meanwhile, will be alongside J.J. Spaun. Both players have already picked up majors this season: Spaun took home both The PGA Championship and The Open Championship, while Scheffler claimed the US Open title.

Scheffler has been the standout player on the PGA Tour in 2025, and his short game has played a big role in that success.

Back in 2024, he gave amateur golfers a look at his technique during a TaylorMade Golf session.

“To hit the high spinner, always need an open clubface, that way I can hit it harder, and it’s that speed that creates the spin on the ball.

“In order for it not to go super far, I’ve got to add loft. So first things first, open it up, then grip the club. I’ve got the ball on the front of my stance, and one of the most important things for me to feel on a shot like this is I like to feel hooky.

“If I try and hit a lot of cut spin on a shot like this, I’m going to go too far across the ball, and then it’s going to cause the ball to ride up the face instead of catching in the grooves.”

Scheffler continued: “This one, I’m not trying to get a ton of rollout on a lower shot. So really this one’s more of just kind of lower normal pitch.

“If I was trying to get a lot of run, I’d square the face and hook it so when the ball hits it kind of starts running like that

“This also gives me some room for error to where, if I’m trying to land it closer to that tier, if I hit a little hard, it’s going to land into that tier, and it’s probably still going to end up really good.

“So once again, taking a high percentage shot, I’d say it’s more of a square feel on this one, no hook, just kind of feeling like my hands are staying low and body’s moving towards the target. But most importantly is the setup. Ball a bit further back, clubface slightly open.”

Assessing Scottie Scheffler’s short game form in 2025

Scheffler already has four wins under his belt this season and looks poised for more success as he heads into round four sitting two shots off Tommy Fleetwood’s lead.

Apart from his major wins at TPC Harding Park and Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Scheffler also captured titles at Muirfield Village Golf Club and TPC Craig Ranch earlier this year.

Scheffler has looked solid in all areas throughout 2025 so far, especially when it comes to his short game around greenside areas.

Leading the FedEx Cup standings, Scheffler is set to compete in both the BMW Championship and Tour Championship in what could be a pivotal stretch for his season.
