Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele and Justin Thomas are just a few of the top players making appearances in what could become one of Netflix’s biggest sports hits yet.
And for many players watching along with fans, seeing their mates step into acting roles added an extra layer of fun to the viewing experience.
For Scottie Scheffler, seeing his close friend Xander Schauffele take on a role in the film was what stood out most. Speaking to reporters after The Open Championship final round at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland on Sunday evening, he said:
Scheffler didn’t hesitate when asked who he’d cast for his own Happy Gilmore role if given the choice. He went with Xander again and explained why.
Scottie Scheffler shares his thoughts on Xander Schauffele’s role in Happy Gilmore 2
Now that the film is out, it’s quickly become a talking point across the golfing world. Speaking on the Pardon My Take podcast, Scheffler shared his thoughts on the film and highlighted Xander Schauffele’s appearance as a standout moment for him.
“The one I laughed the hardest at, and I actually texted Xander this the other day, his lines in the movie are really, really funny,” Scheffler revealed.
“Him and Rickie did a really good job. So did Will Zalatoris. To be honest with you, I thought everyone did a really great job. I can’t imagine how difficult it is for real actors to deal with us trying to make a movie not look terrible and they did a really good job of helping us along. It was really entertaining and really funny.”
Scheffler also has a role in Happy Gilmore 2 but seemed to get more enjoyment from watching some of his friends from TOUR take part.
How golf fans responded to Scottie Scheffler’s cameo in Happy Gilmore 2
While Scottie Scheffler isn’t known for being the most charismatic player on the PGA Tour, he does have a dry wit that fans appreciate.
He’s always ready for a laugh and is usually pretty open with the media. But it’s his quick “not again” line in Happy Gilmore 2 that has really struck a chord with fans online.
One fan pointed out Scheffler’s ability to balance everything he has going on. “Scottie Scheffler, best player in the world and was the best part of Happy Gilmore 2.”
Another picked up on how well his delivery worked within the film. “Scottie Scheffler seeing the police and saying ‘Not again’ in Happy Gilmore 2 is brilliant.”
The praise didn’t stop there, with others applauding how he was able to poke fun at one of the more serious moments of his career.
Given how popular both films have been, it wouldn’t be surprising if a third film eventually gets made.
