Sander Berge insists that missing out on a January move to the likes of Newcastle, Fulham or Arsenal was no ‘big deal’ as he remains focused on securing Premier League football with Sheffield United, speaking to SUTV.
No wonder Berge is keeping calm.
The Blades, after all, already feel like a top-flight team in all-but name. There is a ten point gap between themselves and third-place Middlesbrough. Did we mention Paul Heckingbottom’s side have a game in hand too?

Berge, then, is almost certain to be playing Premier League football at some point in 2023. The only frustration that he’ll have to wait until June; a January departure from Bramall Lane failing to materialise.
Sander Berge staying at promotion-chasing Sheffield United
“I have my people who sort that stuff. I didn’t look too much into it,” the Norway international insists.
“For me, (missing out on a move) wasn’t a big deal, it’s part of the game. Transfer windows; there will always be speculation. I just move on. I just want to have fun and play football.
“It’s a great group to be around (at Sheffield United). The way we are playing at the moment and for the last 12 to 14 months since the new staff came in has been brilliant. It’s a great team and club to be part of. We are rising every week, and pushing for promotion.
“That would be a perfect end to this season.”
According to The Chronicle, Newcastle, Arsenal and long-time admirers Liverpool all ‘registered an interest’ in the former Club Brugge colossus. Fulham came closer than anyone, however; eventually bringing in Serbian enforcer Sasa Lukic from Serie A outfit Torino on deadline day.
The Sun’s Alan Nixon now believe that Berge could see out the remaining 18 months of his Sheffield United contract; free-agent status giving him his pick of the clubs and enabling him to negotiate from a position of strength.
“I can’t discuss future things like that,” Berge responds. “I just love playing football, being a part of this very beautiful club (with) these incredible team-mates that I have.
“We have a big project, which we have gone on now for a while. I just want to finish that in the best possible way. That’s football. You never know what happens.”
