49ers defender shot hours after Super Bowl LX
Keion White was shot in the ankle at approximately 4.06 a.m. local time after what police described as a verbal altercation between two groups inside a business on Mission Street.
The 49ers confirmed that White underwent successful surgery later that day and that the injury is not considered career-threatening.
San Francisco police said the shots were fired by an unknown suspect and confirmed that no arrests have been made as the investigation remains open.
Shooting follows White’s Super Bowl appearance
White had been in the Bay Area on Sunday attending Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.
The 49ers acquired White from the New England Patriots in a trade on Oct. 29, and he appeared in 11 games for San Francisco during the season.
This marks the second incident involving a 49ers player being shot in San Francisco within the past 18 months.
The team said it will provide further updates on White’s condition when appropriate.
