A couple who married during Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl LX halftime show never expected a lighthearted decision to place them at the centre of the live broadcast.
The moment unfolded after the couple from Ontario, California sent a wedding invitation to Bad Bunny, as explained by halftime show director Hamish Hamilton.
The sequence of events behind that invitation reveals how the couple ended up getting married during the Super Bowl performance.
How the wedding invitation reached Bad Bunny
The couple had printed extra wedding invitations and sent many of them to local businesses in the hope of receiving wedding perks.
Hamilton told Variety they chose to send their final spare invitation to Bad Bunny, explaining, “They were like, ‘Why don’t we send one to Bad Bunny? Lots of people send wedding invitations to him, so why not.’”
According to Hamilton, Bad Bunny’s office later contacted the couple, who initially believed the response might result in a signed photo.
They were instead invited to a Zoom call, which Hamilton said the couple found unusual at the time.
How the Super Bowl wedding was arranged
During the Zoom call, the couple learned they were being invited to get married during Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show.
Hamilton described the outcome by saying, “An overprinting of wedding invitations led to a series of events where they wound up getting married during Bad Bunny’s performance at the Super Bowl!”
The moment held added significance because the couple had planned to use Bad Bunny’s song “Baile Inolvidable” as their first dance.
Creative Director Harriet Cuddeford said, “And so, they went from planning to play it at their wedding to being on the Super Bowl with him live, singing it,” before adding, “And with the bonus prize of Lady Gaga being the wedding singer as well.”
