De’Aaron Fox’s image in San Antonio has taken a heavy hit.

His NBA Finals level was underwhelming, his missed layup opened the door for the New York Knicks’ Game 4 comeback, and his fourth-quarter role in Game 5 brought even more criticism.

That form had already prompted noise about a possible Spurs exit. Now, attention around his Instagram activity has pushed the debate even further.

Fans learned that Fox does not follow the San Antonio Spurs on Instagram, although it remains unclear whether he unfollowed the team or never followed them in the first place.

Either way, the timing created anger. After the Knicks won the NBA Finals in five games, supporters were already questioning whether the guard should remain part of the roster.

“F*** that clown! Let’s hope the Spurs organization cuts their ties with that con artist,” said one X user.

A second fan wrote: “Should have unfollowed his instincts for every late game decision, am I right?”

“Bro got tired of seeing Victor Wembanyama accomplish more in one year than he has in his entire career,” wrote another one.

Spurs may find Fox trade difficult

The problem for San Antonio is that frustration does not automatically create a clean exit.

As mentioned by NBA analyst Kevin O’Connor, there are questions about how strong the trade market would be, since teams needing a point guard could draft one instead. O’Connor also suggested clubs chasing a trade option may prefer a younger and cheaper Ja Morant.

Fox’s contract makes that even harder. He is tied to a deal worth more than $221 million, and any buyer would need to believe he can still anchor a backcourt at that price.
