West Bromwich Albion manager Valerien Ismael has told BT Sport that reported Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers target Sam Johnstone is up for sale.

Ismael, who has recently taken charge of West Brom, has said that Johnstone will leave the Baggies this summer.

What Valerien Ismael has said

Ismael told BT Sport: “It’s not a secret, Sam Johnstone and Matheus Pereira are the two players who can leave. It’s my expectation they will leave.”

Arsenal interest

Arsenal have been linked with West Brom goalkeeper Johnstone.

The Daily Star has reported that the Gunners are looking at the England international as an alternative to Sheffield United custodian Aaron Ramsdale.

West Brom value the 28-year-old at £20 million.

We covered the report here on HITC Sport.

Mat Ryan has left Arsenal after his loan spell from Brighton and Hove Albion came to an end at the end of last season.

Therefore, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta needs to bring in a new goalkeeper.

Wolverhampton Wanderers interest

Wolves have also been linked with a move for Johnstone.

The Athletic claimed last month that the Wanderers are looking into the possibility of signing the West Brom goalkeeper.

Rui Patricio could leave for AS Roma, and new Wolves manager Bruno Lage needs to find a replacement.

Transfer battle

With Arsenal and Wolves among the clubs interested in Johnstone, the battle over the signature of Johnstone is going to get intense in the coming weeks.

Bernd Leno is the first-choice goalkeeper at Arsenal, and Johnstone would have to play second fiddle to the German.

If Patricio leaves Wolves, then the West Brom goalkeeper would slot straight into the team.
