Sam Allardyce has responded to Rangers supporters speculating that he could become the new Ibrox manager.
Rangers are still seeking Pedro Caixinha’s successor, a fortnight since the Portuguese was relieved of his duties after a disastrous seven months in Glasgow.
Allardyce is one of several bosses linked with the Ibrox role, and his presence in Scotland this week caused a stir among some Rangers fans.
But when informed that some have been asking questions about himself and Rangers, the former England manager told Talksport [Thursday, 09:25]: “It’s because I was in Scotland yesterday, isn’t it? I was up there [inaudible] definitely… not going to Rangers.”
Shortly afterwards [09:42], the show’s presenter, Alan Brazil, revisited the topic of Rangers’ next boss, revealing that Neil Warnock has a holiday home in Scotland and is “never away from Ibrox”.
Allardyce, who previously said he was attending a League Managers’ Association event in St Andrew’s, replied: “Is he not? There you go then – what better manager would you want? I’m sure Cardiff would want a say on that.”
Allardyce has also been linked with the vacant Everton position, but insisted earlier on the show he “wouldn’t be sat here talking if Everton were negotiating a contract with me”.
The 63-year-old is no longer favourite for the role with most bookmakers, having been overtaken by Everton caretaker manager David Unsworth.
