Ryan Reynolds fulfils a dying Wrexham fan’s wish by meeting with his family and inviting him to the set of the next Deadpool movie.

Wrexham are heading back to the Football League after recently clinching promotion from the National League.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds were at the Racecourse Ground last weekend to see their Wrexham team beat Boreham Wood 3-1 to seal their return back to League Two after a fifteen-year hiatus.

The Hollywood stars have bonded incredibly well with the local community and fans, with Ryan recently fulfilling a dying fan’s wish.

Wrexham fan Jay Fear, a 45-year-old from Southampton who has been diagnosed with terminal appendix cancer, was at the Wrexham game with his family to watch them seal promotion.

Jay was given the all clear from cancer a year ago but was sadly re-diagnosed in January 2023. Reynolds heard about Fear’s dying wish to see the Wrexham team and meet him and so extended an invite.

The charity Bucket List Wishes helped arrange the meeting, and Reynolds spent over 20 minutes speaking with Jay and his wife and children at the Boreham Wood game.

Jay told BBC Radio 5 Live: “They always say you should never meet your idol and this guy is definitely an exception to that.

“I started watching the Wrexham programme on Disney+ and when you watch that you can’t help but love Wrexham.

“People might think this whole thing was for me. Actually, this is for my family because they are the ones that are going to remember what happened for the rest of their lives. I just hope this is a core memory that they’ll never forget.”

Ryan also shared pictures with Jay and his family on his Instagram:

Reynolds also presented Jay with a signed glove from Deadpool 2. The actor also extended the fan an invite to the set of the third film in the movie series at Pinewood studios.

“It was amazing to meet Jay,” the actor told BBC News. “I wonder if I’d have the same unwavering joy if our roles were reversed.

“He is an exceptional person and his family is wonderful. I got a little choked up talking to him and feeling how much his kids and wife are going to miss him.”
