Reilly is now free to follow his former manager Jack Ross to Sunderland.

St Mirren striker Gavin Reilly has announced his departure just weeks after he was linked with a move to Sunderland.

Reilly scored 22 goals in 44 games for the Saints last season, under the management of new Mackems boss Jack Ross.

His contract expired at the end of last month, however, and according to the Daily Mirror, Ross is interested in a reunion with the 25-year-old at Sunderland – the possibility of which looks to have increased after Reilly posted the following tweet on Monday:

And St Mirren fans are understandably disappointed to lose Reilly, whom they signed on a free transfer from Hearts a year ago.

Strengthening in Reilly’s position is likely to be among Sunderland’s top priorities this summer, with the Mackems having seen Ashley Fletcher return to Middlesbrough at the end of last season, leaving just Joel Osoro and Josh Maja as natural options.
