New York Times reporter Rory Smith has told BBC’s Monday Night Club that he can see Leeds signing Takumi Minamino, amid reports. The Liverpool midfielder is a target for the Yorkshire side, ahead of the summer window.
Minamino, 27, could be on his way out at Anfield. A report earlier this month claims Liverpool are willing to cash in on the Japan international for a fee of £17million. Inter Milan and Lazio are among the clubs interested.
Reports in the January window said Leeds were looking at a late move for the ex-Salzburg ace. A player that worked under Jesse Marsch in Austria. But Marcelo Bielsa chose not to bring in any new additions at Elland Road.
With Liverpool looking to sell, Leeds could re-enter the market for the attacking midfielder – even with Brenden Aaronson expected to join. Smith says he would not be surprised if Marsch reunites with the Liverpool ace.
“There will be a lot of change at Leeds. They might already have a deal in place for Aaronson. Wouldn’t surprise me if they tried to sign Minamino from Liverpool. A player Jesse Marsch worked with at RedBull Salzburg.”
Smith says Leeds could sign Liverpool midfielder Minamino
Minamino is well-suited to Leeds. A hard-working midfielder that can also play in the front three. Leeds, and Marsch, like to play with a high press and Minamino has shown he is capable of that – at both Liverpool and Salzburg.
Not only would he suit Leeds, but he would hit the ground running. He is proven in the Premier League when given a chance – and he knows what Marsch wants from his players. It is the ideal move for the Liverpool star.
But the lure of Inter and Lazio will certainly play on Minamino’s mind. There is also a conversation to be had over whether Leeds would need him with Aaronson coming in, especially after Sam Greenwood’s Sunday outing.
