Ronald Koeman responds when asked whether Idrissa Gueye will start for Everton against Bournemouth

Idrissa Gueye has not played for Everton since the start of January, due to the African Cup of Nations.

Ronald Koeman has refused to give anything away, when asked whether Idrissa Gueye will start for Everton against Bournemouth at the weekend by the Liverpool Echo.

Gueye was arguably Everton’s best player over the first half of the season, but his place in Koeman’s starting line-up has now come under threat.

Gueye has not featured for Everton since the start of January, after representing Senegal at the African Cup of Nations.

In his absence, Tom Davies has really stepped up to the plate, with the youngster earning rave reviews for his performances.

Everton have also snapped up Morgan Schneiderlin from Manchester United, to strengthen their midfield options even further.

And Koeman admits that Gueye now faces a fight to win his place in the side back.

“Gana was one of the key players before, but everyone knows at the moment we have five good midfield players,” the Dutch boss said.

“It’s a tough decision for the manager but I like to have it.

“Yes I have made the decision, I always make it early.. but I won’t tell.”

Everton have been in excellent form over recent weeks, and have started to close the gap to Manchester United in sixth.

The Toffees head into their match with Bournemouth on the back of a 1-1 draw with Stoke City in midweek.
