Fabrizio Romano has intimated that Mikel Arteta may have a transfer surprise in store for Arsenal supporters.

The Gunners are growing increasingly more active in the January transfer window.

Having signed Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior, Arsenal are now linked to even bigger moves.

For instance, Arteta has already seen a £60 million offer knocked back for Moises Caicedo, who has been instructed to stay from Brighton training for the moment.

There could be movement there [Mirror], but Romano suggests other things could be planned in North London before Tuesday’s deadline and pointed to their shock attempt to prise Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa as an example of Arteta pulling something out of the bag.

He told Give Me Sport: “Let’s see if they will try for something surprising, we have to remember that last summer they decided to go for Douglas Luiz in the final hours of the window and it was completely surprising. So I will not exclude that they will do something similar like try for a surprising target in the final days.”

Arteta does keep things relatively lowkey at Arsenal, regarding signings.

Remember last summer when a deal to sign Fabio Vieira was announced, despite there being virtually no speculation prior to that?

That’s an example of how small Arteta and Edu keep their circle regarding transfers.

Virtually nothing gets leaked sometimes and hopefully for Arsenal supporters, Romano is right in saying there could be another surprise attempt to sign a mystery target.
