Fabrizio Romano has told GiveMeSport that Graham Potter’s Chelsea are aware that Mykhailo Mudryk wants to join Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the January transfer window.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has reported that Chelsea appreciate the Shakhtar Donetsk winger and want to sign him.

However, the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners know that Ukrainian Premier League club Shakhtar want as much as €100 million (£88 million) in transfer fees, and that the 22-year-old winger himself is keen on a move to Arsenal.

The Telegraph reported on Friday that Arsenal are closing in on a deal for Mudryk, adding that Chelsea could still make a late move for the winger.

Romano said: “We know they had meetings for Mykhailo Mudryk because Mudryk is a player they really appreciate at Chelsea, but they heard €100m and that the player’s priority is Arsenal.”

Could a January transfer happen?

In our view, it is very likely that Arsenal will be able to sign Mykhailo Mudryk ahead of Chelsea in the January transfer window.

The winger has made it clear on social media that he is keen on a move to Arsenal, who have made as many as three bids for the Ukrainian star.

Now, of course, paying close to £80 million in transfer fees, including add-ons, does seem a lot for a player who has not played club football outside of Ukraine, but Arsenal and Mikel Arteta must see something special in him.
