Newcastle United are interested in signing Romain Perraud from Southampton in the January transfer window, according to The Telegraph.

The report has claimed that Newcastle are actively looking to sign a new left-back this month.

Everton’s Lucas Digne is one of the players on the radar of the Magpies.

Newcastle have also reportedly identified Southampton left-back Perraud as a potential signing in the January transfer window.

The Telegraph have reported that Steve Bruce wanted to sign Perraud from Brest in the summer of 2021 but was not given the funds by Newcastle.

Could Romain Perraud leave Southampton for Newcastle?

In our opinion, it is unlikely that Newcastle will be able to sign Perraud from Premier League rivals Southampton in the January transfer window.

After all, the 24-year-old French left-back moved to Southampton from Brest only in the summer of 2021.

Perraud has made seven starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League for the Saints so far this season.

The left-back – described as a “robust guy with good aggression” by Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl on the club’s official website in July 2021 – has also played once in the Carabao Cup so far this campaign.
