Jobi McAnuff has labelled Leeds United transfer target, Sander Berge, as a ‘Rolls-Royce’ and added that the Sheffield United star has ‘a bit of everything’ to his game.

The EFL expert and former West Ham and Crystal Palace player added that Sander Berge is also someone who uses his ‘pace and strength’ very well in the final third – Leeds United would have to cough up £35 million if they want to sign him.

The sought-after midfielder started Sheffield United’s opening Championship game defeat to recently-relegated Watford on Monday night.

If the Blades are to earn promotion to the Premier League, then they need to keep hold of their star men – they lost out in the play-offs last time out.

Nonetheless, Berge is a big part of Sheffield United’s team, as McAnuff spoke highly about the Leeds United transfer target.

“When he is further forward, he uses his pace and strength,” said McAnuff. “We didn’t see that during the early stages of his Sheffield United career.

“He seemed like a man possessed during the second half of last season. Berge himself, Morgan Gibbs-White, who will be a massive miss this year and Lliman Ndiaye, formed a lovely trio in those forward areas. He did really have a very strong to the second half of last season.

“He is the Rolls-Royce. He just glides, such a big stature, but so nimble for what he has got, then he can use that strength and he has deceptive pace. He has a bit of everything.”

BERGE TOO GOOD FOR THE CHAMPIONSIP?

A player of Berge’s quality needs to be playing top-flight football, whether that’s in England or elsewhere, he is more than capable.

That won’t be music to the Sheffield United fans and they are probably hoping for that transfer window to slam shut as soon as possible.

If Berge is still on their books by September 2, then there is no reason why Paul Heckingbottom can’t guide them to a top-six finish.

That opening defeat didn’t help matters, but it means nothing in the whole context of this gruelling, hard-hitting and drama-crazy Championship.

However, if Berge were to leave, then it will be interesting if Leeds could be his next destination, as Sheffield United’s neighbours could do with a player of his ilk in their midfield.
