Jesse Marsch’s Leeds United will have to pay £35 million if they are to sign Sander Berge from Sheffield United in the summer transfer window, according to YorkshireLive.

YorkshireLive have reported that Berge has a £35 million release clause in his contract at Sheffield United following the Blades’ relegation from the Premier League.

The report has added that although Sheffield United are under no pressure to sell the 24-year-old – described by former Blades manager Chris Wilder as “unique” and “a complete midfielder” in VG in November 2020 – they will entertain offers that are too good to turn down.

“Leeds, or any other club, may have an opportunity with a price above the £22m they paid for him,” adds the report in YorkshireLive.

GiveMeSport reported last week that Leeds are interested in signing Berge in the summer transfer window as a potential replacement for Manchester City target Kalvin Phillips.

Should Leeds United pay £35m for Sander Berge?

In our view, Leeds United should not pay £35 million for Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge in the summer transfer window.

That is too much to pay for a 24-year-old midfielder playing in the Championship.

For that amount, Leeds could get a quality midfielder from the Premier League or from a top domestic league in mainland Europe.

Berge made 24 starts and nine substitute appearances in the Championship for Sheffield United last season.

The Norway international midfielder scored six goals and provided four assists in those games.

Meanwhile, The Athletic have reported that Leeds are considering signing a back-up goalkeeper to Illan Meslier.
