Roberto Mancini has said that no club wanted to sign Wilfried Gnonto at one point before going on to praise how well he has done for himself in a Leeds United shirt so far.

The ‘exceptional’ £20,000-a-week talent has been a revelation since joining the Whites in the summer, looking like an instant fit in the Premier League. Especially since the World Cup, the Italian winger has been the shining light in his side, regardless of the final result.

Now, Roberto Mancini has gone on to rave about Wilfried Gnonto, while also disclosing how no club were willing to take a leap of faith by signing him at a point.

However, the teenager has made a mockery of all his doubters with his tremendous performances, with Gary Neville going as far as to say that he plays like a “Manchester City winger.” Even Troy Deeney claimed that the exciting wideman should be in contention to win the Young Player of the Year Award.

Roberto Mancini has expressed his admiration for how brilliant Wilfried Gnonto has been at Leeds so far, as relayed by Tuttomercatoweb, saying, “He’s a young boy, no one thought of signing him but he plays as a starter in the Premier League and he is discounted at 19.”

“He can still improve and he is still young. He has quality. I hope that other young people can follow his example and go abroad to play. If they are good, then they will play.”

The Leeds talisman has made a name for himself in style

Ironically enough, Wilfried Gnonto once said that when Roberto Mancini suggested youngsters to test themselves out to play in foreign countries, it was this message that inspired him to sign for Leeds.

Whether it be the 19-year-old’s breakout showing against Germany in the UEFA Nations League where he scored off the bench or his displays in the English top-flight; time and again, he continues to showcase that he is the real deal.

It seems as if he backs his talent to do the talking more than anybody else around him.
