The Liverpool striker is desperate for a move away from Anfield to play himself back into form and contention for England’s World Cup squad
Former Liverpool legend Jamie Redknapp has said want-away Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge, 28, would make a great signing for Sevilla or Inter Milan if he manages to stay fit, according to Sky Sports.
The 28-year-old England forward is thought to be extremely keen on a move away from Anfield to re-ignite his season and get more minutes on the pitch, with an eye on making Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Russia 2018.
Sturridge has reportedly indicated to Liverpool that he favours a loan move to Sevilla, who are allegedly willing to pay all his wages until the rest of the season. However, the Reds are keen on letting their striker leave on a permanent deal and are after a fee of £30million.
Sturridge has netted an impressive 48 goals in 98 Premier League appearances for Liverpool, but his chances have been hampered by injury and loss of form in recent seasons.
Redknapp still believes the former Manchester City and Chelsea player is a huge asset to any team, however, if he can remain fit and available.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Redknapp said: “Whoever gets him, if you get a fit Daniel Sturridge, you’ve got one of the best strikers in Europe.
“He’s a brilliant player but it’s just fitness with him. He’s a talent and he’s got so much ability.
“He’d be a great signing for Sevilla or Inter Milan if they can keep him fit. They will be like ‘I knew he was good but I didn’t know he was this good’ if he can avoid injury.”
Redknapp pointed to the physical demands of the Premier League as a potential barrier to Sturridge’s fitness, and suggested a move abroad may suit the striker, allowing him to flourish.
“Maybe he feels the rigours of the Premier League are too demanding on someone like him who gets a lot of injuries,” Redknapp said.
“It’s a fascinating one. But if he’s fit and firing he’s a certainty for the England squad.
“But the problem is he’s never fit and it makes it so difficult for a manager to trust him. In terms of ability he’s up there with the best. His goal-scoring record is brilliant. But his ability to play consistently isn’t.”
Should the striker join Sevilla, his goal-scoring could be a massive boost for the La Liga side, who have only managed 26 goals in 20 league games this season as a squad.
