Rio Ferdinand has praised Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho on Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE for signing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton in the summer of 2020.

The former Manchester United defender was impressed by the display produced by Hojbjerg during Tottenham’s 2-0 win against Manchester City at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League at the weekend.

Ferdinand believes that Spurs head coach Mourinho should be given credit for identifying the Denmark international midfielder for his team.

As reported by Sky Sports, Tottenham signed the 25-year-old from Premier League rivals Southampton in the summer of 2020 for £15 million.

Ferdinand said on Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE: “Hojbjerg. An absolute massive signing for Jose. You have to give him huge, huge, huge credit identifying him – he is going to come here and he is going to be the breaker, the person that sits in there, does all the nasty work, the hard jobs, stops the other teams from playing, pass it to the people like the Kanes and the Sons to go and do their bits of magic.”

Important player for Tottenham Hotspur

Hojbjerg has hit the ground running at Tottenham and has established himself as an important player for the North London club.

The Denmark international was brilliant at the weekend, with some Spurs fans and City manager Pep Guardiola raving about him, as covered on HITC Sport here.

According to WhoScored, the midfielder had a pass accuracy of 94.4%, took 52 touches, and made five tackles and two clearances.

According to WhoScored, Hojbjerg has provided one assist in nine Premier League matches and has played three Europa League games for Spurs so far this season.
