As Liverpool prepare to travel to the Santiago Bernabéu to face Real Madrid in the 2nd leg of the Champions League Round of 16, Rio Ferdinand has made a prediction about the contest.

With Jurgen Klopp’s side trailing 5-2 from the home leg, they will be required to replicate their incredible comeback against Barcelona in 2019 to have any chance of going through against the defending champions.

Now, Rio Ferdinand has made a prediction about whether Liverpool can pull off the impossible against Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid side.

Rio Ferdinand makes Liverpool vs Real Madrid prediction

The former Manchester United centre-back has claimed that in his opinion, the Reds have no chance of getting top 4 at the end of the campaign. Taking that into consideration, this fixture means the world to the visitors ahead of the contest.

But Rio Ferdinand has made a prediction about there being no way that Liverpool pull off a miracle victory away from home to topple Real Madrid in the Champions League.

“They’re going to get slapped. It’s not at Anfield. It’s away. They’re going to get hurt.”

“I don’t know, Madrid ain’t in great form, by the way. But when the Champions League music comes on, different Real Madrid comes out”, he said on the FIVE YouTube channel.

Real Madrid are the outright favorites

Not just Rio Ferdinand but anyone that tries to make a prediction about Real Madrid in the Champions League takes into account how inevitable they are in the competition, which is why it’s impossible to side with Liverpool.

While the Merseyside giants have turned up for big games such as against Manchester City and Manchester United this campaign, Los Blancos are a different kettle of fish in Europe and especially when they have a 3-goal lead to their name.

Unless the English side have another special European night in the works, it is borderline improbable to even imagine a possible win for them.
