Rio Ferdinand picked his favourites to win the FIFA World Cup Young Player Award, which is commonly referred to as the ‘young player of the tournament’ on his official YouTube channel.

At first, the Manchester United legend gave Azzedine Ounahi his props, who is reportedly a Newcastle United target, as per 90 Min.

“What’s his name? Ounahi. Bad player! Plays for Angers. Wicked player! He’s going to get a big move.”

Ferdinand went on to hail Josko Gvardiol, who Tottenham Hotspur are lured by making a move for, as per The Telegraph.

“I tell you who else by the way, he got turned inside out but it was by Messi is Gvardiol. The left-sided centre-half, he will be going for £70, £80, £90 million. Chelsea, City, everyone’s in for him.”

Briefly, the now-BT Sport pundit also expressed that Liverpool target Enzo Fernandez is also in contention to be recognised as the standout young player of the tournament by simply saying, “Enzo for Argentina!”

“But those are my 3 for the Young Player of the Tournament: [Julian] Alvarez, Enzo Fernandez, the Argentina midfielder and Ounahi, I don’t want to butcher his name.”

Before the former Champions League winner forgot, he added, “And Gvardiol.”

Which youngster will win the award?

Ultimately, a decision could be made based on whether Argentina win the World Cup on Sunday, as Enzo Fernandez could be handed the FIFA World Cup Young Player award.

With players aged 21 or younger only in contention, Rio Ferdinand’s suggestion related to 22-year-old pair of Julian Alvarez and Azzedine Ounahi are ruled out.

While Josko Gvardiol is a huge contender as well, so are England duo Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham.
