When it comes time to reflect on Rangers’ title success, some names above others will be singled out for praise.

Alfredo Morelos scored a late winner on Wednesday night against Livingston, and as the player who generates most headlines fans will relish the sight of him with a winner’s medal round his neck.

Aside from being captain in this vital season, James Tavernier has chipped in with numerous goals and assists.

Allan McGregor, Glen Kamara, Steven Davis and numerous others have made significant contributions as Steven Gerrard’s men head for their first top-flight title in a decade.

One man, however, has steadily made a case to be considered their most valuable player.

Connor Goldson has been a rock at the back as Rangers accrued their 18-point lead.

Incredibly, Gerrard’s team have conceded just nine goals in 31 Premiership matches this season.

Goldson has been an ever-present during that run, and his impressive performance at the Tony Macaroni Arena represented a personal landmark for the Englishman.

It was the centre-backs’s 150th competitive appearance since joining Rangers in 2018, and he has reached that milestone quicker than any player in the club’s history.

The 28-year-old has taken just 965 days to reach that tally, and he’s become an extremely popular figure with supporters.

Brought to the club from Brighton & Hove Albion as one of Gerrard’s first signings, he is providing excellent value for his reported £25,000-per-week salary.

These supporters have been singing his praises.

Goldson could become a champion as early as this weekend. If Rangers beat St Mirren at Ibrox and Celtic fail to overcome Dundee United at Tannadice, it will be mathematically impossible for Gerrard’s side to be caught.

If it’s not decided in this round of fixtures, Rangers will have a chance of winning it at the home of their rivals in March 21st’s derby.

Rangers won 2-0 on their last visit to Celtic Park, with both goals coming from Goldson.
