Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch has hit out at the media after the reaction to his post-game huddle against Leicester.

The gaffer got his players together in a huddle on the pitch after a 1-0 loss to the Foxes, and he spoke to them about their performance.

We don’t often see a manager speak to his players on the pitch like this. Phil Brown did it once at Hull, but usually these discussions are left for the dressing room.

Unfortunately for Marsch, he’s come under fire for holding the meeting on the pitch, but the manager believes the reaction to his huddle has been nothing short of ridiculous.

What’s been said?

Marsch spoke about the post-game meeting.

“Yeah, I’ve done that in different moments, after games the media comes for the players straight away, and it’s almost impossible after the match to have the whole group together. The attention around this small conversation with the group, I find, frankly hilarious and ridiculous. Whatever, maybe people don’t see that here, I’ve done it a few times in my career in positive and negative moments,” Marsch said.

Different

The reason pundits and people in the media were critical of Marsch’s post-game huddle was potentially because people don’t like change in football.

To be honest, it probably doesn’t help that Marsch is American and this huddle was akin to something you’d see in the NFL, but at the end of the day, does it matter?

If the manager feels like this is the best way to do something, then he has the right to do it.

Imagine if Marcelo Bielsa had done the same thing, there likely wouldn’t have been any of the same backlash or uproar as there has been when Marsch did it.
