Celtic are showing an interest in signing Watford striker Troy Deeney before the transfer deadline – but he instead looks set for Birmingham City.
The Sunday Mirror (29/08, p66) report that Celtic are keen to add Deeney as they look to provide Ange Postecoglou with more firepower.
It does though look like VVV-Venlo striker Giorgos Giakoumakis is signing for Celtic though, and landing both doesn’t really make sense.
Deeney is older and didn’t smash 26 league goals last season, unlike Greek ace Giakoumakis, who is set for a Celtic medical.
Maybe Celtic had looked into Deeney just in case they couldn’t sign Giakoumakis, with both players pretty physical centre forwards.
Deeney looks to be leaving Watford after the Hornets announced that there are ongoing discussions over a potential exit before the deadline.

A move to Celtic just doesn’t seem to add up, as the 33-year-old scored just seven goals last season and appears to be in decline, never mind having no resale value.
The Athletic now claim that Deeney looks set to sign for his boyhood club Birmingham City. Deeney even has a Birmingham tattoo on his calf.
That certainly adds up more than a move to Celtic, with the Bhoys surely focusing more on Giakoumakis right now.
