Liverpool may have a real chance to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie in 2024 as he attempts to leave the Bundesliga club.
Liverpool continue to push for the Premier League title this season but Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Manchester United was a disappointment.
The Reds may need a couple of January additions to really make a push for top spot – and a defender may be on the radar.
Joel Matip is out for the rest of the season and looks likely to leave the club when his contract ends next summer.
Liverpool will be exploring the market for potential centre back signings and one target is angling for a move away…
Piero Hincapie wants to quit Bayer Leverkusen
Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie is one name which just won’t go away.
Reporter Ben Jacobs claimed in August that Hincapie would ‘love’ to join Liverpool but that the Reds weren’t 100% sold on a move.
Fussball Transfers then added just last week that Liverpool are battling West Ham United in the race for Hincapie.
Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg now states that Hincapie is ‘unhappy’ at Leverkusen and wants to leave.
Hincapie wants to start more games and believes that he needs to leave Leverkusen to make that happen.
It’s stated that ‘talks will follow’ as Leverkusen are yet to give Hincapie the green light to leave the club in January.
Plettenberg notes that Liverpool are ‘monitoring’ Hincapie for a potential move but Leverkusen want to keep him.
The Bundesliga leaders will lose both Edmond Tapsoba and Odilon Kossounou to the Africa Cup of Nations and don’t want to lose another defender.

Hincapie can give Jurgen Klopp tactical flexibility
Hincapie is still a fairly raw defender at just 21 and he has only started two Bundesliga games this season.
The Ecuadorian certainly has talent and potential, possessing the ability to play out from the back as well as impressive pace.
One of the big factors with Hincapie is that he can play as a left back and as a left-sided centre back.
Liverpool have been building up with Trent Alexander-Arnold moving into midfield, so having a left back who can slot inside as a left-sided centre back in a three would be ideal.
Hincapie can do that, offering depth at both positions and some tactical flexibility during games.
Liverpool would be banking on Hincapie fulfilling his potential if they do make a move, but Leverkusen seemingly won’t let him go without a fight.
