The Fulham midfielder is said to be in Newcastle United’s sights.

Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney has told the Sun he is flattered by reports linking him with a move elsewhere.

The Scotland midfielder has scored five goals and created another four for the Cottagers this season, which is said to have prompted interest from clubs including Newcastle United.

Fulham, however, are understandably reluctant to lose their prized asset, and are said to have placed a £20 million valuation on Cairney’s head.

The player, it seems, is in no rush to leave the west Londoners, who can close the gap on the play-offs to three points by beating QPR on Saturday lunchtime, but admitted: “It’s flattering, of course it’s nice to hear.

“Some of the price tags people have been saying is a nice compliment and that’s all I can see them as.

“There’s a reason why them sorts of figures are getting chucked around my name and that’s because I’m playing well. I just need to carry on doing what I’m doing.

“I obviously want to play in the Premier League and if I can do that with Fulham it would be amazing.

“We have got a chance this season. We are going under the radar a bit because no one tipped us at the start of the season.”

A Newcastle move for Cairney this month appears unlikely anyway, based on a report in the Shields Gazette on Friday, which claimed the Magpies are looking to secure loan deals with a view to making them permanent in the summer.

It has been widely reported that Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend is a target for his former club, just six months after quitting St. James’ Park in a £13 million deal.

According to the Sun, however, the Eagles are seeking reimbursement through a permanent transfer, with Middlesbrough also said to be keen.
