Newcastle United are looking to utilise the loan market in January.

According to a report in the Shields Gazette, Newcastle United are now looking at loan deals throughout the January transfer window.

Mike Ashley is said to have reservations over spending too much money this month, despite it previously being suggested that Newcastle would have funds to invest.

Newcastle are looking to seal temporary deals, which they can convert to permanent ones, should they be promoted.

And Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend is believed to be right at the top of Rafael Benitez’s wishlist.

Townsend spent half of last season with Newcastle, and scored four goals in 13 matches at Premier League level.

The England international then decided to leave St. James’ Park, following Newcastle’s relegation.

However, things haven’t worked out as planned for Townsend at Palace and his future looks uncertain.

Newcastle are now hoping to complete a loan dealer the winger, with a view to making it permanent in the summer, should they earn promotion to the Premier League.

Newcastle are currently top of the Championship, and have built up a seven point lead over third place Leeds United.
