According to Il Messaggero, Liverpool are interested in signing Lazio powerhouse Sergej Milinković-Savić.

Jürgen Klopp is on the lookout for a Gini Wijnaldum replacement.

If Il Messaggero‘s news is true, the German seems to have identified the 21-cap Serbia international as someone who could fill the Dutchman’s shoes.

The news was covered by us yesterday, so let’s take a more in-depth look at what type of player the 26-year-old really is.

Milinković-Savić has been likened to Zinedine Zidane

If you’re attracting comparisons to someone like Zinedine Zidane, you’re clearly doing something right on the pitch.

Milinković-Savić even spoke about the comparison, telling FIFA that he feels flattered when being likened to the France legend.

You can see why people have compared the two.

Like Zidane, Milinković-Savić is a tall, powerful midfielder, who boasts excellent ball control and balance despite his lanky frame.

However, the Liverpool target doesn’t actually agree with the comparison, as much as it flatters him.

Milinković-Savić thinks he’s more like Yaya Touré

Interestingly, the €18 million man (£15 million) brushed Zidane comparisons aside, and actually compared himself to Yaya Touré.

Again speaking to FIFA (via Goal), the Spanish-born Serbian said: “That comparison can only flatter me. However, I see myself more as a Yaya Touré.”

If Klopp can get his hands on a hybrid of Touré and Zidane, the Anfield faithful will be licking their lips in anticipation.

It would be a serious statement if Liverpool signed Milinković-Savić, given his pedigree in the game.

At 26, he also has plenty of time to get even better.

Milinković-Savić seems perfect for the Premier League, so if Liverpool sign him, the rest of England’s top-flight should watch out.
