According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona and Xavi are now interested in Internacional forward Yuri Alberto, who is a target for Arsenal.

What’s the story?

Well, it was Goal who revealed that Arsenal had made a move for the 20-year-old, submitting an enquiry about the wonderkid’s availability.

Now, Mundo Deportivo believe Barcelona want to muscle in on Arsenal’s pursuit of Alberto, with AC Milan also interested.

The Spanish news outlet add that the Brazil Under-23 international is valued at €15m (£12.7m), following a very strong season.

Alberto has scored 19 goals so far this season, while also providing four assists for the Brazilian giants – he seems to be a real gem.

Interestingly, the Internacional No.11 has been likened to Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar, who also began his career in Brazil.

If he’s even 50% as good as the 29-year-old, then Arsenal should break the bank to sign him.

Arsenal could have edge over Barcelona

Thanks to Ronaldinho, Rivaldo and others, moving to the Camp Nou is a dream for many South American footballers.

In that respect, Arsenal may be fearful about losing out to Barcelona.

However, Mikel Arteta could have the edge over Xavi.

Mundo Deportivo believe that, while Barcelona do want to sign Alberto, they are firstly committed to signing an experienced striker who can deliver immediately.

Therefore, Arsenal may just be able to nip in ahead of the Spanish giants.

Arteta could use the fact that both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are out of contract in June as bait to lure Alberto to the Emirates Stadium.

With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future also uncertain, there’s definitely a place for Alberto in Arsenal’s lineup.

Only time will tell if the Gunners win this transfer battle.
