According to 90min, Wolves are now in advanced talks to sign Leeds target Michy Batshuayi on loan from Chelsea.

What’s the story?

Well, the Belgium international did well on a season-long loan at Besiktas last season, which seems to have earned him a move to Molineux.

Batshuayi scored 14 goals in 33 Süper Lig appearances for the Turkish giants, which attracted the attention of Leeds as Jesse Marsch remains on the hunt for a new striker.

However, the American may now have to look elsewhere, as the £90,000-a-week man is close to joining Wolves.

Discussions between Wolves and Chelsea have gone a pretty long way, and if 90min are to be trusted, an agreement between the two Premier League sides is close.

It comes after Everton also expressed an interest in Batshuayi, who Frank Lampard worked with at Stamford Bridge.

However, the Toffees have allegedly backed out of a deal.

Batshuayi has less than 12 months remaining on his contract with Chelsea, but if he does well at Wolves, the Blues have the option to extend his deal by a further year.

Michy Batshuayi in for a big season at Wolves or Leeds

Whether Wolves complete this deal, or Leeds end up hijacking it, the 2022/23 campaign is a very important one for Batshuayi.

The 28-year-old has fallen off the radar in English football over the past few years, following a disappointing loan spell at Crystal Palace and a stint far away from the limelight in Turkey.

However, if Batshuayi can hit double figures in England next season, it could set him up for an exciting spell in his career going into his thirties.

More opportunities would arise, and he would be an attractive, affordable option given his contract situation at Chelsea.

If Batshuayi doesn’t want to experience an early plunge into Major League Soccer or elsewhere for one last payday, he needs to impress this season – wherever he ends up.
