Wolverhampton Wanderers can get Goncalo Guedes on the cheap if they send Rafa Mir to Valencia in exchange for the £36 million Portugal international, as reported by La Razon.

Two years ago, the former Benfica winger was the toast of the Dragao, firing home the only goal of the game as Fernando Santos’ side defeated the Netherlands in the inaugural UEFA Nations League final.

Flash forward to May 2021, however, and while the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Ruben Dias and Raphael Guerreiro have gone from strength to strength, the same can’t be said of Guedes.

There’s a nagging feeling the one-time Paris Saint-Germain starlet has plateaued – perhaps even declined.

Guedes was labelled heir apparent to Cristiano Ronaldo by some as he exploded on to the scene for a title-chasing Valencia side a few seasons ago.

And while the 24-year-old is still capable of producing the spectacular – he has enjoyed an impressive end to the current campaign – match-winning performances have been few and far between for Guedes during the past 18 months.

That hasn’t stopped Wolves from revisiting their long-standing interest in the Jorge Mendes client, however.

La Razon reports the Premier League outfit could offer Rafa Mir as part of a swap deal that would see the £36 million-rated Guedes arrive at Molineux for a knock-down fee.

There’s certainly an argument to made, though, that keeping Mir would make more sense than signing Guedes.

With 16 goals to his name during a stellar loan spell at relegation-threatened Huesca – including a couple of outstanding strikes – Wolves are crying out for a powerhouse centre-forward like the 6ft 2in target man.
