According to The Telegraph, West Ham United will try to make a move to sign Nayef Aguerd in the summer transfer window.
The centre-back is fairly highly-rated over in France, and as many Hammers supporters may know, this isn’t the first time Aguerd has been linked to United.
Indeed, the London club have been credited with an interest in the past, with some reported claiming that David Moyes’ side had even bid £17m for the defender at one point.
However, as we all know, a move never came to fruition, and according to The Athletic, Aguerd even used West Ham’s interest as ‘leverage’ in order to win himself a new contract at Rennes.
While some clubs may be deterred by their interest being used to fuel personal gain, it looks as though West Ham rate Aguerd enough to look past the fact that he snubbed them in order to sign a new contract in the past.
The Hammers could certainly do with a new defender in the summer. Angelo Ogbonna and Craig Dawson aren’t getting any younger, while it looks as though Issa Diop could be on his way out of the club in the summer transfer window.
Konstantinos Mavropanos, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Benoit Badiashile have all been linked in recent weeks, but Aguerd may well be the best of the bunch.
This certainly seems to be a situation worth keeping an eye on.
