West Ham United are eyeing a shock deal to bring Marcelo Brozovic to the London Stadium with Inter Milan listening to offers for the Croatian midfielder, according to Calciomeracto.

Say what you like about the Hammers but they don’t lack ambition in the transfer market.

While Davids Gold and Sullivan aren’t always popular among an often disillusioned fanbase, the owners have presided over the addition of big-name, big-money stars such as Sebastian Haller, Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko.

And, according to reports in Italy, Brozovic is the latest high-profile figure on West Ham’s wish list.

The former Dinamo Zagreb ace was one of the first names on Inter’s team sheet last season with Antonio Conte – a difficult man to please – claiming the 27-year-old is on his way to becoming a “world class” central midfielder.

And, in the eyes of Nerazzuri talisman Romelu Lukaku, there’s no one you would rather share the trenches with than a man whose attitude and ability has earned him the respect of a demanding dressing room.

“If I went to war and had to carry someone with me, I would choose him,” Lukaku told an Instagram Q&A in March.

With that in mind, it seems bizarre that Inter would consider a sale.

But Calciomercato claims that with Conte favourite Arturo Vidal nearing a return to Italy and Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante a dream target, any offers for Brozovic will be considered during the current transfer window.

Then again, with European champions Bayern Munich and Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham interested too, West Ham’s chances may be slim.

Having ambition in the transfer market is one thing but, without the ability to offer European football, the biggest names in world football won’t exactly jump at the chance to wear claret and blue.
