West Ham United are once again having a look at Fashion Sakala with just a few months left on the contract of the KV Oostende forward, as reported by Voetbal Krant.

Considering the Hammers have spent most of the last month being linked with a number of big-name strikers, the London Stadium faithful may be left feeling underwhelmed if a little-known Zambian international arrives for a cut-price fee before Monday’s transfer deadline.

But Sakala deserves the benefit of the doubt.

He has scored nine goals in 20 Jupiler League games this season after all.

A constant menace when drifting in from the left onto his favoured right foot, Sakala has been one of the breakthrough stars in Belgian football in the last 12 months or so.

“He’s very quick. He’s a player with real potential,” Oostende teammate Jack Hendry told the Scottish Sun of a 23-year-old who has also caught the eye of Steven Gerrard’s runaway Rangers side.

“He is not the finished product but he has definitely got the potential to kick on. I’m sure there are many teams interested in him right now.

“He needs to remain focused, see out the season here.”

Whether he does see out of the season at Oostende remains to be seen.

With his contract expiring in July, De Kustboys may be willing to strike while the iron is hot and cash in while they still can.

Interestingly, Sakala was first linked with West Ham in April 2020 via Zambian publication Sports Corna. The Sun (13 December, page 59) reports that he also has his heart set on a Premier League switch.
