Football Italia claim West Ham are in the mix to sign Udinese talent Destiny Udogie – alongside Tottenham and Juventus. The teenage left-back has enjoyed a stunning breakthrough campaign during 2021-22.

Udogie, 19, joined Udinese on loan from Hellas Verona last summer but was instantly installed into the starting line-up. He had a hand in eight goals from the left flank, whether that was left-back, wing-back or on the left of midfield.

His five goals and three assists have caught the attention of Spurs and Juventus – with reports earlier this week stating both clubs have been told the “extraordinary” star will cost just £17million. Udinese have signed him permanently.

However, the latest report says that West Ham are also in the mix – as are Inter Milan, who want to replace Ivan Perisic. But Inter might have dropped out of a race, as they close in on Cagliari’s Raoul Bellanova.

Do West Ham need a player like Udogie? They could certainly do with another body on the left flank, one that can do the defensive side of the game but attack as well. Aaron Cresswell is becoming more of a central defender.

West Ham largely played with a back four last season, but Cresswell will turn 33 in December and hardly has the legs to go up and down the pitch. When David Moyes uses a back three, Cresswell plays as a centre-back.

The Hammers need legs on the left and Arthur Masuaku has been blighted by injury. Ben Johnson is right-footed – meaning there is a space for Udogie. West Ham need him more than Spurs, too.
