According to The Athletic, West Ham could reignite their interest in Duje Ćaleta-Car this summer, after Liverpool tried to sign him in January.

The report states that Fabian Balbuena will be allowed to leave when his contract expires next month.

As a result, David Moyes will be left quite thin in the centre-back department, with only Angelo Ogbonna, Issa Diop and Craig Dawson to choose from.

Frederik Alves is an option, although The Athletic believe he is likely to go out on loan.

Now, with European football secured for next season, the Irons could try again to sign Ćaleta-Car, who they and Liverpool wanted in January.

What happened with Ćaleta-Car in January?

Well, according to RMC Sport, the Croatian travelled to the airport on Deadline Day after Liverpool submitted a £20 million bid.

However, the deal eventually fell through.

That came after West Ham also submitted an offer worth £20 million in 2020, although the 24-year-old chose to stay in France.

If West Ham can convince the Marseille No.15 to move to east London, then they’ll be getting a fine player.

Liverpool don’t just buy anyone, so their interest alone should tell you what a good player Ćaleta-Car is.

The defender made 33 appearances in Ligue 1 for Marseille this season, scoring two goals as they finished fifth in France’s top-flight.

By all accounts, he would be a fantastic addition to West Ham’s squad.
