Football website 90Min claim West Ham are still ‘sniffing around’ Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley this summer as David Moyes continues his spending spree – which saw the Hammers bring in a sixth player in Thilo Kehrer on Wednesday.
Indeed, the Hammers took their spending to around £120million with Germany international Kehrer and are far from done. It comes after moves for Gianluca Scamacca, Flynn Downes, Alphonse Areola, Nayef Aguerd and Maxwel Cornet.
It is a clear indication the Hammers board are backing David Moyes, especially given they have only sold Issa Diop. Now, the Hammers will look to bring in a left-back after failing to agree personal terms for Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri.
But a midfielder is also a necessity and Barkley could come in. The England international is in the final 12 months of his contract, and the report claims West Ham are ‘sniffing around’ £15million (Times) Chelsea signing Barkley.

West Ham are not the only club said to be looking at the ex-Villa and Everton man. Reports say that Celtic are also looking at a possible deal for Barkley in the coming weeks. TransferMarkt say he has the same agent as Downes.
West Ham ‘sniffing around’ Barkley
Barkley’s career has gone downhill and he needs to join a club where he is going to play regularly. One where he is going to get the chance to rediscover the kind of form that earned him a move to Stamford Bridge in the first place.
At West Ham, he might not start. But with the Hammers in the Europa Conference League, there are plenty of opportunities to play football. Celtic would give him more game time, and they are in the Champions League.
What is for sure, is that Barkley needs a move. Chelsea are seemingly desperate to sell given his current contract. This is the final chance they have to get rid of him for a fee. That is because his deal ends in 2023.
